Passing Out on the Beach (Anawangin, Zambales Part 1 of 2 )

Date visited: February 2010

To be completely honest with you, I don't recall a lot of specifics from this trip. First, because this was organized by a travel group; and second, because I became so intoxicated that I literally passed out on the beach (the entry title is not wordplay). I must have been really out of it  because I supposedly made references to scenes from one of the Shake, Rattle, and Roll movies

Juani in Pundaquit before boarding the boat that would take us to Anawangin Cove.

A woman and a girl selling bamboo coin banks in Pundaquit.

In my defense, I let my guards down because I was with some of the people I trust and enjoy conversing with the most--Jeff and my UP Sidlangan friends. I blame this Hangover-ish episode to two things: lack of sleep prior to the trip and a certain someone who kept passing shots around without drinking his share.

Awesome rock formation on the way to the cove. I think this was the first time I saw something like this  on the sea.

I do remember that this was an overnight trip that cost us P2000.00 each. It was a good deal considering the organizers took care of transportation, food, and tents. I also recall that our group rendezvoused at about four on a Saturday morning (Filipino time, so 4:30 a.m. really). We left Manila at about 5:00 a.m., then we were on the road for about five hours before we got off the car in Pundaquit to transfer to a motorized boat. We traveled by sea for about thirty minutes.

More rock formations.

When we arrived at the cove, we rested a bit and had lunch. At about 3:00p.m. we got on the boat again to check out the Capones Lighthouse and have a swim at Camara Island.

Shadows at the lighthouse.

Dilapidated door and scrap metal around the lighthouse.

A nice little broken structure.

Bricks. Leaves. Awesomeness.

View from the lighthouse.

Though the lighthouse wasn't easy to get to, as it required a bit of trekking on a hillside, I say it's worth it. It's dilapidated which kinda makes it awesome for people like me who adore brickin' and leafin' (check out the reference). The climb to the top of the lighthouse was scary too because the stairway is no longer hinged well to what it's supposed to be hinged to (thus the shaking to the slightest movement).
